When I finished The Gongjian Conception: The Awakening of the Human Spirit, I wrote a short author's bio for myself.① Looking back at it now, the prose is a little raw — plainly written, a bit deliberate, the way a literature student writes before life has worn the edges off. Not mature enough. A little ornate.

But beneath the immaturity of the words, there was a real and unshaken ideal: I wanted to become a true thinker — one who contributes something to society.

Not the kind who stays in the study, gets cited inside academic circles, and never touches the real world. I wanted to be like Mao — rooted in the people, working for the people. Like the old Chinese scholars who worried about the country and the world. Like Marx, who carried the ambition of liberating all humanity. Like the Western philosophers who saw through the surface of the world and took apart its underlying laws.

When I was a student, I promised my first teacher: after graduation, I would not rush into pure theory and philosophy. I would enter life first — build a career, build a family, carry responsibility, live through the full range of human experience, and only then come back to the page and write.

From 2019, when I began The Gongjian Conception series, to today, six or seven years have passed. I have held to that early ideal, step by step, without drifting from the direction I set for myself.

In these years of writing and thinking, I have kept my focus on the most central questions of human beings and society:

What is consciousness, really? What are the underlying laws of human spiritual growth? How should a person's true value be defined and realized? Where is human society heading? What is the ultimate meaning of being alive? When the world order breaks down and chaos spreads, where does human civilization go? Modern technology advances at incredible speed, yet it cannot cure the flaws in human nature — so how do we reshape human nature and turn it toward the good? What is the true standard for judging good and evil? How should education be rebuilt for our time? What is the real measure of a social system's worth?

My work has never stayed inside one narrow branch of study. It tries to see the whole, to connect the whole. I can say, honestly and without exaggeration, that this body of thought has become a complete and self-consistent system. Of course, the road ahead is long. There is no end to learning, and there is still much for me to refine.

This year I turned fifty — the age when a person is said to know the mandate of heaven.

At this age, I keep returning to a question that runs through all of history. Confucius, Laozi, the great Eastern sages — and the Western philosophers and thinkers — were, for the most part, unrecognized in their own lifetimes. Their work and its value were only discovered after they were gone. Why is it that the most advanced thought is so often unable to find a place in its own time?

I have written for half a lifetime. I have written a great deal. I know that many of my views — the system as a whole — have real relevance to the present and real value for our time. And so I cannot help asking myself: will I repeat the fate of those who came before me — unknown in life, poor and worn down, only recognized after death?

Fifty, and knowing the mandate of heaven. Most people accept their fate at this age. I have decided to break mine — to break the pattern, to act, to turn fate around.

That is the answer I have given myself.

So I will no longer be deliberately humble. I will no longer hide my edge. I will no longer sit in a corner, quietly working, sealing my thoughts away, telling myself that writing is the whole of my mission. I will not only bring my books fully into the world and make them public. I will walk out of the book and into reality — into concrete social practice. Marx said the point is not to interpret the world, but to change it. From theory to practice, I want to do what I can — something real — for human harmony, for civilizational progress, for the upgrading of the human spirit.

Many people will ask: if you have spent all this time writing, why not publish through the proper channels, why not submit to journals — why put everything on the internet?

That question cuts right to the point.

I submitted more than thirty books to major publishing houses over seven or eight months. Not a single reply. By industry convention, three months without a response means rejection. You look for another way. I asked myself again and again: is my work really worthless? But I read it through, I went over it all, and my work stands on reality — it faces the real pain of our time, it responds to real social problems. It is not empty theory. It has practical meaning.

After enough of this, I saw the reality clearly: this is the common predicament of every independent thinker and every writer whose ideas run ahead of their time. No traffic. No influence. No name. No credentials. No money. Even with real insight and a complete system of thought, the work just sits there. No one asks.

I have written more than forty books. If I published them all at my own expense, a single domestic book number alone would cost seventy to eighty thousand yuan. With my current situation — still trying to build something, with a family and children to support — it is simply impossible.

So I tried another route: break the grand theory down into mid-level theories and smaller academic propositions, and submit them as papers. The results were no better. Only a few made it to initial review, one or two reached expert review. Most came back with "not suitable for this journal, please submit elsewhere." No result.

After years of learning how academic transmission actually works, I found that compared with the rigid, closed, high-threshold academic circles at home, international platforms are more open. If a paper meets a certain standard, it can be posted on a preprint platform, get a DOI, and become publicly citable — the thought is preserved and made visible first. The domestic equivalent is strict and closed. For independent writers and thinkers outside the system, it is deeply unfriendly.

This is the real reason I built this website: to store my thought permanently, to make it public, to break through the gatekeeping — so that work that took years and stands on the real problems of our time can actually be seen and recorded by this era.

IV

I do not want the work of a lifetime to sink into silence and leave nothing behind.

So, when conditions allow, I plan to establish the Human Happiness Community Cultural Organization, and to launch a spiritual and intellectual enlightenment movement that is rooted in the present and reaches the whole world. Material civilization today is racing ahead. Spiritual civilization lags behind. The two are out of balance, and that imbalance produces social conflict and global problems. Through sustained transmission of thought and practice, I want to help material and spiritual civilization support each other, hold each other up, and move together. I want to break down the barriers of geography, civilization, and cognition — to build shared understanding, and to move toward a real global integration of civilizations, and a shared human advance.

This is the mission I will hold to for the rest of my life — with all my heart, until the end.

May he rely on heaven-granted thought, seek new ideas, establish the heart of heaven and earth, save the lives of the people, fuse the best of ancient and modern, Chinese and Western learning, and open a great peace for a thousand generations. For the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, for the lasting stability of the world — unrelenting effort.
