全球化、数字技术、人工智能、跨境经济网络以及气候、公共卫生和安全风险的扩散，正在使人类形成越来越紧密的事实性相互依存关系。然而，相互依存并不自动等于共同体形成，更不意味着人类已经回答了“共同生活为了什么”这一规范性问题。避免战争、控制风险、维持发展和建立全球治理固然构成现代人类合作的重要任务，但即使这些任务得到较好解决，一个物质繁荣却普遍焦虑、技术先进却关系疏离、国家和平共存却文明长期隔绝的世界，仍不足以构成关于人类未来的完整回答。
Globalization, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, transnational economic networks, and the diffusion of climate, public-health, and security risks are binding human societies into ever denser forms of factual interdependence. Yet interdependence does not automatically produce community, nor does it answer the normative question of what living together is for. Preventing war, managing risk, sustaining development, and improving global governance are indispensable tasks. Even if they were handled more effectively, however, a world that is materially prosperous but chronically anxious, technologically advanced but relationally alienated, and peaceful among states but persistently segregated across civilizations would still provide an incomplete account of humanity's future.
